How BCACG Works On Your Behalf
Many of our members contacted us to tell their personal stories on
how the funding freeze would affect their organization's ability to
deliver needed services such as hospices, daycares and amateur
sports, among others.
As a result of funding rejections, some charities and non-profits
have been forced to eliminate needed programs and take out lines of
credit after learning their committed 3-year funding has now been cut
to one year. We continue to advise the Gaming Policy and Enforcement
Branch of the funding cutback
impacts to our members. We've suggested the Minister Rich Coleman
attend our annual symposium to address our members directly on
these new policy directions.
BCACG received a phone call from GPEB's Derek Sturko (Assistant
Deputy Minister, Gaming Policy and Enforcement) on August 28, 2009
with a direct access funding update (see pdf bulletin from GPEB). This update has only raised more questions which BCACG has emailed
Derek so we may advise our members accordingly. (See email text
here). We are also
attending the Budget Lockup in Victoria on Sept. 1st to see how gaming
funds will be disbursed in this budget with its anticipated deficit
in the billions. Finally, we are also investigating the possibility
of legal action on breach of contract.
Please check our website regularly for additional news updates as we
hear them.
